From Smithfield to Pretoria: FUSO Canter gets honorary retirement at the DTSA HQ Office

After an incredible four decades, Mr. Dennis du Plessis bid a heartfelt farewell to his beloved FUSO Canter. This cherished vehicle, now stunningly restored, has found its new home at the DTSA HQ office in Pretoria alongside our vintage collection, where it will be displayed as a testament to its enduring legacy and beauty.

In 1981, the late Mr. Dennis du Plessis of the farm Skaapkraal, near Smithfield, became one of the first farmers in the district to buy his own truck - a brand-new FUSO Canter. This truck was at the time a crucial tool in Mr. Du Plessis’ quest to establish a sustainable farming business for the Du Plessis family. Many a trip was undertaken in the truck to fetch new dams in the North, pick up rams to enhance the quality of the livestock on Skaapkraal in the South or to move supplies around on the farm to where it was required.

In the meantime, the Canter also became a beloved community stalwart. For many years, the trusted Canter was made available to assist other farmers, or to help at the local school and generally being useful wherever it was needed. To his family, Mr. Dennis du Plessis was a hard-working visionary, and a creator of sustainable and relevant solutions -  exactly what the FUSO brand strives to be for their customers.

DTSA is proud to welcome their latest retiree, a vehicle with a rich and beautiful history.

Mechanical restoration was carried out by DTSA's Dealership: Orbit Commercial Vehicles Cape Town.
Cosmetic restoration was completed by DTSA's approved ABRC: Bellville Truck Centre.
The body was built by Boss Bodies in Cape Town.
